Cardiff homes can see condensation build-up during wet or colder months, especially in bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Mould often starts where warm moist air meets a cold surface.
Daily habits help, but mould can also point to leaks, failed ventilation or building issues. Report persistent or spreading mould so it can be reviewed properly.
Understand condensation
Condensation is moisture from everyday living: showers, cooking, drying clothes indoors and even breathing overnight. It settles on colder surfaces such as windows, external walls and corners.
Wipe window condensation where practical and look for patterns. Mould behind furniture, around windows or in bathrooms often suggests airflow needs improving.
Daily prevention
Use extractor fans when bathing or cooking, keep trickle vents open where fitted, and open windows briefly when moisture is high. Put lids on pans and avoid drying clothes on radiators where possible.
Leave a small gap between furniture and external walls, keep rooms reasonably warm, and clean early mould spots with an appropriate household product while wearing gloves.
When to tell us
Tell 2let2 if mould keeps returning, spreads quickly, appears with a leak or damp patch, or if fans, windows or heating controls are not working properly.
Photos are useful. Include the room, wall or surface affected, how long it has been present, and whether there is any leak, smell or visible damage nearby.
