Floors take constant wear in rented homes, especially hallways, kitchens and shared living spaces. A few simple habits help prevent stains, scratches and water damage.
This guide covers everyday care and when to report damage rather than trying to hide it.
Prevent marks
Use doormats at entrances, remove muddy shoes where possible, and add felt pads under chair and table legs. Lift furniture instead of dragging it.
In shared homes, agree a quick cleaning routine for kitchens and hallways so grit and spills do not get walked through the property.
Clean appropriately
Blot carpet spills rather than rubbing them deeper. On hard floors, use only a lightly damp mop unless the flooring guidance says otherwise.
Avoid soaking laminate or timber-effect flooring, and do not use bleach or abrasive cleaners on surfaces that may discolour.
Report damage early
Report lifting edges, loose thresholds, cracked tiles, trip hazards, damp patches, stains from leaks or flooring that moves underfoot.
Early reporting is especially important where water is involved, as damage can spread below the visible surface.
